Educators Institute : 2007 Educators Institute[Preparation] [What to Bring] [Logistics] LogisticsVisa: For international participants, you will need to check into the requirements for your country. An invitation letter has been attached for you and a copy is being mailed to your home address. If you need additional assistance, please contact us. Air travel: Please arrange for your airfare. You should arrive at the Portland International Airport (PDX) by Monday, July 14, by 2 pm at the latest. We will run a shuttle from the airport to the accommodations. The IEI course will be finished on Sunday, July 20. Please book your departure flight for anytime Sunday, July 20. Participants who wish to stay early or leave later are responsible for any additional costs incurred. IEI Start Time and Date: Please make sure that your flights allow you to participate in the entire IEI course. Start time: Monday, July 14 at 2 pm. Finish time: Sunday, July 20 (flights may be scheduled any time). Accommodations: IEI participants will based at Menucha, a retreat and conference center. You may visit their website at: http://menucha.org/. Rooms are shared. Menucha is located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, a 30 minute drive east of Portland. The center is isolated and there is no shopping available on site.
Meals: All meals are provided for participants beginning with dinner on Monday, July 14 and ending with breakfast on Sunday, July 20. Daily schedule: The schedule varies, but we generally meet early each day at 7:00 am for breakfast at Menucha. The schedule will finish by 9 pm most evenings. Most days include several options for exploring field sites. A final agenda will be sent to you when finalized. Shopping: There are many opportunities to purchase educational items and souvenirs throughout the trip. If you wish to arrive early or stay late, downtown Portland is a shopping paradise with most major outlets and specialty shops within walking distance of public transportation. Oregon has no sales tax! Special Needs: Please notify our staff of any medical conditions, physical limitations, or potential areas of concern that may require special attention during our trip. Many of the locations we will be visiting are out of cell phone range, but we will be returning to Menucha each evening. As a thank you and a way to share your contact information, we ask that each participant bring 15-20 postcards from their home region to give to guest speakers. Please write your contact information on the back of the postcard, along with a short “thanks” in your native language. If you would like, you may also bring cards to give to IEI participants. |
