• 45% of Oregon is forestland (27.5 million acres)
• More than half of Oregon's forestland (60.5 percent) is publicly owned
• Oregon was the first state in the nation to adopt a forest practices act
• Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is the predominant commercial tree species and is used for lumber, veneer, plywood, flooring, pulp, and some chemicals

• Oregon Forests The Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) was created by the Oregon Legislature in 1991 to improve public understanding of the state's forest resources. OFRI provides information on Oregon's forest practices and encourages sound forest management.
