Mr. Robert Martin Mijol is from Sabah, Malaysia. He has been working with the Sabah Forestry Department since 2007 and currently assists the District Forestry Officer, based in Ulu Segama-Malua Forest Reserves. He joined WFI in May for a six month program to explore the potential of Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) within forest reserves in Sabah to contribute towards conservation and rural livelihoods; and to learn PES policies and practices in the US Pacific Northwest, and how it can be adopted in Sabah. He hopes to gain a better understanding of how PES works in the US and use the knowledge to share and expand the idea into government policy and legislation back home.
